Emergency Drills: Are We Prepared

I’ve been reflecting on our recent emergency drills and wondering if we’re really ready for a real crisis. It seems like we check off the boxes, but I feel like there’s a gap in how we communicate with each other during these simulations. What strategies do you all find effective for keeping everyone on the same page, especially under pressure?

It’s like practicing for a marathon but only running laps in the parking lot — we might want to incorporate scenario-based discussions, as those help us think on our feet. What do you think about having quick team huddles after drills to address any hiccups in our communication?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

I hear you on the communication gap. One thing that’s worked for me during drills is assigning specific roles ahead of time, so everyone knows their responsibility right from the start. It really helps streamline communication and ensures that we’re all on the same page when things get hectic. Have you tried anything similar?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

One thing that’s really helped me is running a quick debrief after each drill. It gives us a chance to openly discuss what went well and what needs improvement while it’s still fresh in our minds. Have you thought about setting aside time for that?
