I’ve been running a quick micro-sim at the start of 1900 using our EMR’s training sandbox; my rule is β€˜use your real flowsheet and a 10-minute timer,’ which really tightened my meds-to-notes flow. They’re solid for muscle memory, but they miss call bells and family curveballs, so I add one random interruption card to keep it honest.

What’s helped me is a pre-0700 micro-sim that targets one thing β€” documenting a PRN follow-up β€” on our EMR’s training patient with a hard 5-minute timer; I say out loud β€œtwo patient identifiers” and scan a test wristband to keep it realistic. It’s tightened my morning workflow, but if the scanner’s tied up I switch to a quick SBAR voice note and chart from that instead.

Mid-shift drill works better for me: I fake a late order change, reconcile MAR, confirm allergies, and drop the variance note so the QA/compliance boxes are hit like a real shift. @lrogers56 I’m with you on tight scope, but I rotate the target weekly (falls, wound photos, barcode hiccups) so it doesn’t get stale.
